Exit, Pursued by Bear and Other Silly Things
You know that point where you're so far into a semester and everything's due at once but your creative juices are spread too thin to produce any actually good content? Yeah, that. So it's time to make like WatchMojo and turn to Shakespeare as a whole. Besides, people like lists, right? Just as people like silly things. So, in this time of stress, let's take a moment to relax, sit back, and look at the sillier/more questionable things featured in these plays.
5: Ball is Life | Henry IV
Someone insults your tennis game? Start a war. Flawless logic there. Sure, if you look at what was actually being implied, it's not so silly at all, but who wants to do that? I definitely don't at the moment.
4 Don't See Gender | Merchant of Venice
"The hammer of justice is unisex." - Batman
And apparently Batman knows what he's talking about, as seen in the trial in Merchant. Woman in a man's world? Have no fear, cross-dressing is here! One has to wonder what's more silly - the fact that this was considered as a legitimate plan or that it works. True, one could also argue that the silliness-meter in this situation depends on the costuming of a particular production as well, but I don't care, it's still silly.
3.14 - Pie Time | Titus Andronicus
It's man devouring man, my dear. And who are we to deny Shakespeare? Sure, this one is a bit on the dark side. Okay, a lot on the dark side. Yet one has to wonder just how cannibalism got thrown onto the drawing board. Maybe it's my dark humor, but this strikes me as silly regardless. Either way, good thing cannibalism is frowned upon in most societies.
2 Grizzly Exits | Winter's Tale
Now bear with me on this one. You're walking in the woods - er, Bohemia. There's no one around and your phone hasn't been invented. Out of the corner of your eye, you spot him: Shia LeB- a bear. It's a bear. Where did it come from? Where did it go? Or are these jokes too polarizing? Unbearable? Good.
1 Death (But Not Really) | A Midsummer Nights' Dream
I will fully admit I'm biased here (because obviously the rest of this list is complete fact), but there was no way at least part of AMND wasn't going to make it on this list in some regard. But since I can't just put the entire play on this list, let's look at the actors' rendition of Pyramus and Thisbe. Pyramus' death just goes on. And on. And on. Truly, it puts this to shame in such a way one can't help but laugh (even if it's a pity laugh).
